About Government Publications

The Schurz Library is a member of the Federal Depository Library Program. The library has been a depository since 1968. This program provides U.S. Government materials free of charge and in return the libraries accept responsibility for making them available to the public. As a selective depository the Schurz Library chooses sources in areas which support the curriculum and research interests of Indiana University South Bend and the Second Congressional District. These include sources in a variety of formats including a vast number of online sources, print materials like maps, posters, periodicals and microfiche and cd-roms.

The federal government is a leader in a many areas of research and data collection and by law ( makes this information available on the Internet and in print. The United States government is the largest publisher in the world, producing thousands of resources every years on almost every subject imaginable. Many contain statistics and information not available elsewhere. Take advantage of this opportunity to find and use this rich source of information.

The print and microfiche collections are located on the Ground floor of the Franklin D. Schurz Library. The majority of the print government publications may be checked out in the same way as books in the general collection.
